Another sunny autumn day, another 55 km, another helpful local setting us on the correct trail, another Danube crossing and another change of country. We began in Slovakia and finished in Hungary with only a minor detour due to a bridge no longer on the path and the kind help of a local irrigation engineer who had worked in Melbourne and took great pains to ensure we didn’t make any more wrong turns.
Esztergom has Central Europe’s largest Basillica (and, we suspect, the most steps) and wonderful views over the Danube, which rewarded our climbing efforts by actually turning BLUE for the occasion!
