The beginning of our cycling tour of Brittany began with, of all things, a boat ride- the ferry from St. Malo to Dinard so as to avoid the busy traffic on the causeway. Soon, however, we were rolling through the countryside, enjoying the cycle path which allowed us car free riding for almost the whole 34 kilometres.
The path is in good condition and goes through beautiful fields and forests. Birdsong filled the air and pretty villages and farm houses punctuated the journey.
We soon found ourselves riding alongside the River Rance which winds gently to our destination, Dinard, an amazingly pretty town of half-timbered houses, narrow winding lanes and delicious Galettes (see “Cool things about France #5”). A perfect stop over on our first real riding day for this journey.
