Europe is old, you know. That means that a lot of buildings are really old too. And they have old doors and windows which might not get a coat of paint or a proper repair for, say… oh, a hundred years or so. This makes them beautifully patina-ed and character filled. Whether they open on to a sunny balcony, shut out the winter chill or hide a secret courtyard (like the shabby door to our apartment building in Paris) the windows and doors of France are rather wonderful.
