The about-to-be-married couple, Melanie & Chris, have a holiday house about 17 km from the wedding chateau. The village, Segur Le Chateau, dates back over 1000 years and is remarkably intact. Most of the buildings are over 500 years old, in fact Mel & Chris’ cellar was built over 1000 years ago and actually goes under the main street- a worry when big trucks rumble through.
The wedding guests were invited for drinks at Mel’s place, dinner at the local eatery (who couldn’t believe their luck at getting a week’s worth of business in one night) and for a tour of the town- including a torch light (as in FLAMING torch light!) tour as midnight approached.
Highlights included the long abandoned castle, the spring where Richard Lion Heart drank when he attacked the castle and the five level “Tower House”, a former appeals court from the middle ages which has been painstakingly restored by Karen, an extraordinary American architect who lives between here and New York with her dog Magpie.
