We are feeling a bit enchanted; having had no real preconceived idea of what to expect in Montreal, we have to say it’s great… a top city! About all I’d heard was that it featured highly in the list of the world’s most liveable cities and was one of Lonely Planet’s 10 coolest cities in the world, so I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised…
With a far more open and relaxed feel compared to Toronto, a quiet (it is only about 3 degrees, so I guess it would be quiet!) and pretty Old Town, friendly French speaking locals, a busy Art’s scene and slightly raucous (but safe feeling) nightlife, what’s not to like!
Day one had us wandering through the Old Town, stopping for a warming (still minus 2 degrees at 10:00 am) hot chocolate in a beautiful (but affordable!) hotel, finding good French style food for lunch, marvelling at the beautiful, imposing buildings (often matched with equally interesting newer architecture) and returning exhausted to our lovely, freshly renovated but ridiculously affordable (thanks H & T!) hotel after dinner in Little Italy… happy days!
