Jan and Ian

The road to Broken Hill.

After a short stop in Wentworth to explore the confluence of our two greatest rivers, the Murray and the Darling, (and a really good sausage roll!)we headed towards Broken Hill. The first surprise was the usual sign warning of kangaroos ahead… Except this one was for 240km ahead!
Thus began a count: compare the numbers of kangaroos we saw to the number of cars.
By the time we arrived in Broken Hill the final score was:
Kangaroos 17 (sadly, all victims of cars which had ignored the take care signs)
Cars 84 (an average of one each three kilometres) And, a surprise entrant…
Emus 5 (significantly outperforming the kangaroos by being alive when spotted… although the one that chose to run directly in front of our car was obviously agitating for “Beware of Emus” signs!)
Along the way we also discovered a memorial bra tree (Janu considered adding to the blossoms, but modesty prevailed), a geographically confused Ned Kelly and big, big skies!
