Our time in Central Australia has come to a close and it’s all about the return trip now! With lots of friends back in Geelong eager to catch up with Alison we had better get her back on the double!
Stage 1: A return to Coober Pedy and then on to the Clare and Barossa Valleys for a brief wine tour.
The highlight of two 700+km days of travel was undoubtedly our second stop over at Ken & Anna’s B’n’B in Coober Pedy. Not only did they welcome us back like old friends, but they also came out to dinner with us where they introduced us to the “world’s biggest opal buyer” who joined in the festivities. Unforgettable!
The two long drives saw the landscape change from scrubby plains to fertile farmland and the dusty, remote roadhouse stops of the Centre became pretty little towns dotted with solid stone buildings straight out of their glorious past lives as the hub of thriving rural communities… What a land of contrasts. I hope we never take it for granted…
