We’ve either inadvertently walked on to the set of a new Austin Powers movie or we’ve been sucked into a time-warp back to the Swingin’ 60s. London is HAPPENING!
I love Paris but I have been totally blown away by our first few hours here… there is an energy that sweeps you up and carries you along. Paris is sophisticated, confident and stately. London is… Groovy!
I love the sense of humour and easy going fun there seems to be lurking around every corner. People are smiling and laughing- they are having a ball. I don’t remember this energy being here 13 years ago when we last visited. It charmed and delighted me then as well, but someone turned the energy level up to 11. It is brilliant!
The school holidays are on and kids are thronging excitedly through Hamleys’s amazing toy store and climbing over the giant lions in Trafalgar Square, which also boasts, by the way, a giant purple chicken.

It is there because… just BECAUSE.
M & C are already right at home. Our apartment is one small block from Carnaby Street which is tingling with energy, unlike the more somber place we found years ago. In fact Carnaby is now a whole precinct, not just a street. There are bars, cafés, all the usual suspects in globally-hip fashion and, luckily, a few independent operators on their way to emulating the big-guns. A few steps on and we hit Regent Street, double-deckers and taxis shining impressively in the spring sunshine and stately buildings, beautifully
I can’t wait to see beyond our neighbourhood tomorrow. If the buzz we found in our back-yard is happening everywhere else then we are in for a very special week.
