Jan and Ian

Almost home…

Living in Australia means the flight to Europe and back has a stopover somewhere in-between and we always like to spend a couple of days resetting our body clock and taking in something new. This trip finds us stopping in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates and staying at the rather lovely Southern Sun Hotel.

The 40° daily temperatures make our usual aimless wandering a little tricky for exploring but I think we’ve done pretty good job of taking in the sights, including The Corniche and the absolutely phenomenal Grand Mosque (even if Jan did have to cover up her scandalous bare forearms!)

Oh, not forgetting high-tea at the Emirates Palace Hotel… we didn’t bother making a withdrawal from the gold vending ATM. Really.

Next stop, home!

  1. High tea was amazing. Endless tea served with beautifully crafted sandwiches scones and cakes.
At the mosque all the women had to cover their arms legs and hair. They lent us a black hijab to do the job. The men only had to cover in white if they had shorts above the knee.
