And why exactly have so many of our family gravitated to New York this November? Well, Because Heidi ran in the New York Marathon!
Not that she is the only family member pounding the pavement here in New York: Hayden, Charles, Matt and Garnet got into the spirit th a 5km dash to the finish on Saturday, setting the scene for Heidi’s big run in the main event on Sunday.
What better excuse could we have for a celebration, so perched in our apartment above the 59th Street Bridge exit we enjoyed the milling crowds below, part of the million-plus crowd roaring encouragement to the 50,000 runners as they sweated it out along the course through the five boroughs of New York.
And Heidi didn’t let her first ever marathon daunt her; she passed by our vantage point excited and strong (leaving her parents a little teary) and battled to the finish line in Central Park, one of the record number of finishers in the world’s biggest marathon.
It was a brilliant day for us all, emotional, exciting and memorable… so wonderful to experience together!
